2009 Fall Conference - Special Moments

THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU

Join the District TRIO in congratulating Patricia Jordan, Conference Chair, the Conference Committee, and the vast support team who worked tirelessly to ensure the members were provided an exciting, diverse and educational program. The diversity of the weekend seemed to be enjoyed by all with the following highlighting just a few key areas.

  • Attendance: Attendance set an all time record at ~265 in attendance with ~ 65 first timers.
  • Venue: The Wyndham Hotel facilities were recently remodeled and provided a beautiful setting with a welcoming, gracious and accommodating staff.
  • Richmond Mayor: Mayor Dwight Jones in his letter congratulated the Toastmasters on their 85th Anniversary and recognized our ongoing contributions to the community. You are an integral part of that and should be proud.
  • Program: The program was seamlessly/professionally presented ensuring our members opportunities to live the Conference theme “What Happens in Richmond, Should Not Stay in Richmond.” The diversity of the program was exciting and entertaining challenging our members to expect more from these events.
  • Corporate Sponsors: Casino Night was a smashing success and primarily due to the almost 30 corporate sponsors who contributed much material/financial resources. Hopefully you would agree the registration bags were full of useful goodies. Wow... what about that live entertainment and were you a winner on the Casino tables?
  • Educational/Entertaining Sessions: From the World Champion Speaker, International Published Author, Public Speakers, Registered Parliamentarian, Health Advocates, Dance Instructors, American Professional Character Actor, International Director and the talented District Toastmaster volunteers whose sessions offered much to be enthusiastic about and to learn/grow from the experience.
  • Speech Contests: I’m certain the speech contestants challenged the judges to pick winners. Join us in congratulating all participants and appreciate that the judges chose the winners well.
  • Business Meeting: The business meeting went smoothly with a quorum of satisfied and informed members in attendance.
  • Club Gift Baskets and Sponsor Gifts: The exciting gifts and wonderful club gift baskets allowed many of our members/guests not to leave the conference empty handed and remember “What Happens in Richmond, Should Not Stay in Richmond.”

Spring Conference: Mary White at 757-664-4552 Mary.White@Norfolk.Gov and Melissa Simmons at 757-334-0572 melissalsimmons@verizone.net as the Spring Conference Co-chairs are planning an equally exciting program at the Founders Inn, Virginia Beach on May 14-15, 2010 so contact them with your ideas and your willingness to step up and support.
