Gettin' Real!
Team A Plus Division Council Meeting - October 29, 2011
Getting real requires that we do the following: 1. Observe, analyze and evaluate the state of Division A. 2. Articulate a vision. 3. Build a solid team. 4. Establish SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) Goals. 5. Develop a Plan of Action with Milestones (POA&M). 6. Negotiate buy in of the team members. 8. Communicate expectations. 9. Work the plan. We are on our way to Makin' It Happen! Who would have guessed that in October we would be faced with snow and sleet throughout the division. It was a little chillier than expected but the clouds cleared and we muddled through. Our first order of business was a working lunch, where we enjoyed hearty food and a warm fire in the lodge at Eagle Landing. Thank you to Al Tuten, DG and JoAnn Seymour, LGM for visiting with us. We accomplished a lot in a short time. We shared our observations, analysis and evaluation of the division, articulated our vision for 2011-2012 and the foundation we will build for the future, introduced the assistant division governors and their roles, discussed the attributes of successful assistant area governors and established a due date for bringing them on board, established our general goals and developed the first set of specific goals with a plan of action, and negotiated and set forth the due dates for our first milestones. A very productive work session. Our second order of business, team building! This meant a few lessons that could only be learned by flying high on a zip line at Wilderness Adventure. We took away the essential knowledge that (1) Kathy is a bit out of the box but has our best interests at heart, we think; (2) she may ask us to believe in what she is doing without a full understanding at times (i.e. walking up the blind approach to the tower); (3) we may need to do some things that seem "scary" at first with the faith that we will be successful and have fun doing it, no fear (just letting go and traveling the 900 foot line 75 feet off the ground); and (4) we are a team, we work together to make each other better. | Go Team!
