Enthusiastic and Well-Attended Summer Leadership Institute Kicks Off 2011-2012 Toastmaster Year |
It definitely was an event for the books. On June 25, club leaders and forward thinking members came together across the District to prepare for their roles in the coming year. Summer Leadership Institute had been organized this year across two dates, three locations per date, in an effort to make training accessible throughout the District. This was the first of the two dates (the second round is scheduled for July 23), and was supported by three teams of excellent trainers, most of whom had attended a "Train the Trainer" session two weeks earlier in Richmond.
The more "traditional training" was provided, to review the specific officer roles, but training also included other "elective" sessions to promote "showcase" meetings, help members with speech evaluations (one of the toughest roles to master in a club meeting), and familiarize attendees with opportunities for service beyond the club level.
Sessions were held concurrently at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Dominion Innsbrook in Glen Allen, and National College in Salem. While the scheduled webex was challenged by audio difficulties, it was clear to all present that they were part of something much bigger than what transpired at any one venue. Attendance exceeded expectations with more than two hundred and fifty attendees across the three sites. District 66 deeply appreciates the generosity of Dominion, Regent, and National for the use of their facilities as well as the efforts of so many who made this successful training event possible. Check out the video above, for a review of the morning's events. The expressions on the faces say it all.
